Renewable energy has become more affordable today, and is even cheaper than the energy generated by coal power plants and nuclear plants. The solar energy market has become more affordable mostly due to the involvement of China and other Asian countries in the sector.

The annual report published a few days ago by REN21 (the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century) says that in 2016, 161 GW of renewable energy capacity has been installed worldwide, bringing the global capacity to almost 2,017 GW (an increase by 9% from the previous year 2015).

Solar power represents almost half of the installed capacity (47%) being followed by wind power (34%) and hydropower (15.5%).

REN21’s report says that today, the renewable energy generation capacity increases faster than the capacity to generate energy from fossil fuels.

Solar power is the leader in renewable energy development because is surging at a faster than the other green energy sources, and faster than expected.

Solar power will continue to grow, mostly due to the increasing number of new solar PV systems emerging every year.

In 2017, the solar sector predicts an increase of the worldwide solar generation capacity by 81GW, which represents a growth of 5% from 2016 (77GW), and 62% from 2015 (50GW).

The solar power boom is mostly generated by China, the U.S., Japan and India.

Germany, a former leader in solar power growth is only on the 5th place because in 2016 it installed only 2% of the world solar power generation capacity.

Solar technology becomes more affordable every year and this is the main reason of the global growth of solar power generation capacity.

A report published by SolarPower Europe says that the clean electricity generated by solar power plants costs half compared with the electricity generated by coal and nuclear power plants.

The same report considers that solar power has also an advantage over the energy produced by natural gas, not to mention that solar energy generated by rooftop solar PV systems is cheaper than the energy provided by the grid.

A report published by the industry association SolarPower Europe says that clean electricity generated by solar power plants costs half compared with the electricity generated by coal and nuclear power plants.

The same report considers that solar power has also an advantage over the energy produced by natural gas, not to mention that solar energy generated by rooftop solar PV systems is cheaper than the energy provided by the grid.

By 2022, solar power is expected to double or even quadruple in countries like China and the U.S., while Europe is expected to grow its solar generation capacity only by 50%.
