EMPLOYEE REACTION TO UPWARD AND DOWNWARD ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATION FLOW (A CASE STUDY OF UYO CITY POLYTECHNIC, UYO)

ABSTRACT

A study on employee reaction to upward and downward organizational information with reference to Uyo city polytechnic was carried out. The study’s population was 77 and a sample size of 12 was adopted through the purpose sampling technique in which key respondents were chosen for this study. The study’s methodology was the survey where the tool used was the questionnaires which were administered to these respondents. Data analysis used was the simple statistical method where these data were presented, analyzed and interpreted. However study’s findings revealed that Uyo City Polytechnic management has not fully been practicing upward and downward communication. Again feedback has not been practiced by management. Finally, interactive sessions between management staff and staff have not been held except on emergency ground. Therefore based on the empirical studies & recommendation proffered were that Uyo City Polytechnic management as a matter of administrative procedure should practice upward is downward communication. Again, management of Uyo City polytechnic should engage in the feedback process where upward communication should be encouraged. Then, interactive session between management staff and other staff should be held on regular basis. Finally, management of Uyo City Polytechnic should organize seminars, symposia and workshops on upward and downward communication. employee reaction
